Solution
Xiamen is one of China’s principal coastal cities and ports, a significant destination for both business and leisure travel, and a key cross-strait gateway. In response to an international design competition for the new Xiamen Xiang’an International Airport, Benoy developed a masterplan, architectural design, and interior design concept for the 700,000 m² terminal. The proposal was not selected.
A commercial campus at the terminal’s heart
The design places the terminal building at the heart of a closely connected commercial campus. Individual airport gates branch off from this central hub, enabling intuitive passenger flow and directing people naturally through the retail, food and beverage, and lifestyle offer before arriving at the arrivals hall. The configuration ensures consistent commercial visibility throughout the passenger journey while maintaining the clarity of circulation that a terminal of this scale demands.
