Commercial revenue forecasting for Vienna International Airport
Vienna International Airport (VIE) is Austria’s largest airport and one of Lufthansa Group’s six European hubs. The commercial revenue forecasting engagement was commissioned in September 2022, as VIE was tracking a strong post-pandemic recovery: passenger volumes had reached 23.7 million in 2022 (75% of the 2019 record) and were forecast to rise substantially by 2023.

The work forecast the commercial revenue potential of VIE’s retail, food and beverage, and duty-free offering under evolving passenger profile and traffic conditions, drawing on the airport’s trading data and passenger composition analysis. Category-level revenue projections supported the airport operator’s commercial planning decisions during a period of significant strategic activity, with the Terminal 3 Southern Expansion advancing from its pandemic-paused status toward the tenant acquisition (growing VIE’s total commercial space by 50%) and ground-breaking phases that followed in 2023 and 2024.
