Shinsegae Properties
We were asked to design a contemporary façade for a new retail and leisure scheme conceived by Shinsegae. Built over nine levels above ground, the development is highly prominent, and our principal challenge was to reduce its visual mass. Our response also needed to mirror the surrounding urban landscape.
Our design strategy was to break down the building’s shell into a series of interconnected volumes. As we were unable to project or recess surfaces, we created distinct sections through framing techniques and contrasting materials.
Starfield City now has a recognisable, elegant identity. The subtle material palette of stone, glass and metal emulate the urban context, while lit elements create a vibrant face at night. Thanks to glazed areas on the lower level, visitors are invited inside to explore, and we have helped to maximise the tenants’ brand exposure.
