Challenge

Benoy is designing the architecture and landscape of Sofitel Legend Pyramids Giza, a 302-key five-star hotel on El-Remaya Square in the Haram district of Cairo. The 47,400 sqm scheme sits within 500 metres of the Grand Egyptian Museum and in direct sight of the Giza Pyramids. It is being developed by Abu Dhabi Tourism Investment Company and will be operated by Accor under its Sofitel Legend brand. Opening is scheduled for late 2027, with the property positioned as the eighth in the Sofitel Legend portfolio.

Solution

The plan is organised around three courtyards, each set to frame views of the pyramids and structure the guest journey across the site. Planting, water and shaded thresholds bring scent, sound and shifting light into the experience, extending the architecture into the landscape and moving guests between interior and exterior space. Programme is distributed around the courtyards, guest rooms, suites, restaurants, banquet and event facilities, and retail, so that arrival, circulation and rest unfold against a framed view of the plateau.

Result

The building form is shaped in response to the geometry and mass of the structures it overlooks, reading as contemporary while referencing the Pyramids beyond. Locally sourced materials tie the hotel to the colour and texture of the surrounding desert and to the construction traditions of the region. The result will be a hotel that takes its cues from its setting rather than competing with it, calibrated to the cultural weight of one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world.
