A new chapter for Sentosa
Resorts World Sentosa has been one of Singapore’s defining leisure destinations since it opened in 2010, anchoring the southern tip of Sentosa Island with Universal Studios Singapore, a casino, six hotels and a succession of major attractions. The RWS 2.0 expansion marks a fundamental shift in ambition: from attraction-based destination to integrated lifestyle resort. Benoy was appointed to deliver the masterplan, architecture and landscape architecture across the 49-hectare site, shaping the framework within which the entire transformation would unfold. Construction on the Waterfront Lifestyle Development commenced in late 2024, with phased openings planned through to 2030. Two significant milestones have already been reached.

Expanding an established entertainment district
The architectural design weaves together a waterfront promenade, a four-storey retail and dining podium, immersive entertainment spaces and two luxury hotels totalling over 700 keys. A defining feature is a walkable mountain trail scaling the hotel building’s ridge, offering elevated vantage points across Sentosa and the surrounding water.
The first completed element of the RWS 2.0 masterplan is Weave, a lifestyle retail and dining destination that opened in July 2025. Formerly The Forum, the existing structure was retained and reimagined in an adaptive reuse approach. Benoy transformed the former retail area into an island-inspired streetscape across three interconnected levels, connecting Universal Studios Singapore, the Singapore Oceanarium (which also completed in 2025) and the upcoming waterfront complex. Curved shaded paths, lush planting and three green pavilions integrate retail, leisure and community space. The lightweight canopy was designed to reduce solar gain, with abundant greenery serving both a psychological and a thermal function.
Integrating leisure and landscape
The ‘landform’ building design responds to Sentosa’s tropical island context and its position at the entrance to Singapore’s Greater Southern Waterfront, a nationally significant coastal corridor undergoing long-term regeneration. Verdant rooftops, passive cooling technologies and biophillic landscaping throughout connect the built environment to the natural setting, in line with RWS’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030. The development targets BCA Green Mark Platinum certification.
