Challenge

Bespoke wayfinding that evokes the history of nineteenth century shipping to create a visually playful navigation scheme.

Solution

The Plimsoll Building required a sympathetic wayfinding scheme to communicate simplicity and quality, while enabling ease of navigation within a complex site. Our solution drew on the rich history of Samuel Plimsoll, who devised safety limits for ship loading in the nineteenth century. Expressing the idea of a loading line above and below water, the signage typography and information graphics are horizontally symmetrical, creating a shifting Plimsoll Line’ as people move through the building’s levels.

Project is now live.
