Challenge

Our client wanted to penetrate an existing and famously designed Philip Johnson façade with four national restaurants. The brief required exterior tenant expression to draw people in and through the mall, and to create a unique architectural art piece that hovers above the concourse entrance.

Solution

In our response, we strategically designed the tenant façades and patios to allow for mature and prominent tenant expression and branding while paying respect to the monumental façade backdrop.

Result

Our interventions helped to create a reactivated mall entrance with a distinctive, architecturally recognizable art piece. We also provided space for a series of exterior restaurants flanking the mall entrance, with activated patios and re-envisioned hardscaping design. Proving popular with retail and dining customers alike, in 2018 the project won an ICSC Global Award.
