Challenge

Benoy was commissioned to design the retail core of China’s first mega ​“park + retail” commercial development. The goal was to pioneer a new Park Life 3.0 model — fusing nature, retail, and urban vitality within Chengdu’s rapidly developing Tianfu New Area CBD.

Solution

Integrating a 400,000 m² park with nearly 500,000 m² of retail, the masterplan combines enclosed malls, open streets, podiums, and standalone blocks. Benoy’s design leverages the site’s topography to form a dual ground-floor layout linking Levels 1 and 3, enhancing accessibility and flow. Inside, a 1,000 m² sunlit atrium and a 1,500 m² indoor garden create a greenhouse-like retreat that blurs the boundary between architecture and landscape.

Result

As Chengdu’s first ecological shopping centre, Tianfu Garden City redefines the relationship between park and commerce. The design offers an open, oxygen-rich environment that brings natural light and greenery into every corner, shaping a new benchmark for sustainable, experiential urban retail in China.
