Wuxi MixC West completes on the shore of Lihu Lake
Wuxi MixC West has been in full operation for two months, completing the largest MixC scheme in the Jiangsu Province, China. Joining the retail-led East Zone (opened in 2014) on the shore of Lihu Lake, with a combined destination of 336,000 metres square, curating over 200 brands across themed clusters spanning apparel, homeware, dining, entertainment and wellness. More than 60% are first in-market stores, addressing a gap in the city’s evening economy.
Benoy’s interiors for the West Zone are a three-act spatial narrative grounded in Wuxi’s local character: the rhythm of Lihu Lake, the spatial order of Jiangnan and the spirit of theatre. The colour palette takes its cue from the elegant brown tones of the city’s purple clay pottery, layered with pure white, reddish brown and dark grey to give the interior a warm refined character in Jiangnan aesthetics.
The main atrium translates the shoreline of Lihu Lake into continuous curved surfaces across the ceiling and façade, with light playing across the forms to establish the West Zone’s most recognisable waterside identity. The Eye of Wuxi, a distinctive design gesture, is conceived as a bustling auditorium, with light reflecting from mirrored metal surfaces overhead that create a sense of theatre, drawing visitors into an urban social space at the heart of the destination. The underground district, Sweet City Market’s formal language reflects the layered qualities of Wuxi’s local pastries, giving the lower level a dense street-life atmosphere that carries the elegance of traditional Jiangnan gardens to the energy of public gathering spaces and the site’s location on the edge of Lihu Lake.
Under the wider mixed-use model of retail, waterfront precinct and offices, the scheme carries one design language across two tonal registers. The retail zones lead with the elegant purple clay brown. The office areas above shift to a restrained contemporary palate of white stone and black stainless steel. Together, the East and West Zones create a lively waterfront destination for shopping, dining, entertainment and relaxation, adding new energy to Wuxi’s evening economy and wider cultural life.
The scheme is developed by Taihu New City Group, constructed by China Resources Land and operated by China Resources MixC Lifestyle.
