Benoy is proud to see Weave at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) featured in The Straits Times article “Old walls, new stories: Adaptive reuse breathes new life into Temasek Shophouse and Weave at RWS” (10 October 2025).
The feature spotlights the rising role of adaptive reuse and sustainability-led design in shaping Singapore’s next generation of lifestyle destinations.
Transforming the former Forum into an island-inspired streetscape
Led by Ms Azaria Lee, Project Director, Benoy worked closely with the RWS design and development teams to reimagine the former Forum retail area as Weave — a 20,000 sqm “town square” connecting Universal Studios Singapore, the new Singapore Oceanarium, and the upcoming waterfront complex.
Inspired by island living, Weave embodies connection, openness, and nature. Curved shaded paths, lush planting, and three green pavilions seamlessly integrate retail, leisure, and community spaces, creating an experience that feels both fluid and rooted in place.
Azaria Lee shared:
“From the start, we focused on connecting more closely with nature, building resilience and adapting the existing structure rather than replacing it. The core vision – an island-inspired street link between the different offerings at RWS – remained constant, but it evolved into a naturally ventilated, biophilic environment with a richer mix of uses. One way was by replacing the existing EFTE material with newer, lightweight material that would reduce solar gain by 30 per cent, while also maximising daylight.”
Sustainability in action at Resorts World Sentosa
The success of Weave stems from a close partnership between Benoy and Resorts World Sentosa, aligning design innovation with the resort’s long-term transformation under RWS 2.0.
Mr Nartano Lim, Vice-President of Projects (Design Management) at RWS, stated:
“RWS is eager to take a sustainability-forward approach in its ongoing transformation, so Weave was determined early on to be an ‘adaptive reuse’ project that retained as much of the original structure as possible.”
He added that the team’s environmental ingenuity extended from the lightweight canopy – which reduces solar gain – to innovative cooling systems and abundant greenery that enhance comfort in Singapore’s tropical climate.
“The green is not just decorative and psychologically calming, but also reduces the overall heat island effect of the structure to not retain as much heat in the evening.”
A living symbol of sustainable design
Beyond its technical innovations, Weave reimagines how people experience retail in the tropics — an open, naturally ventilated streetscape that invites exploration and connection.
The project stands as a testament to the shared vision between Benoy and Resorts World Sentosa. Weave represents what can happen when sustainability, imagination, and shared purpose come together — not just as an adaptive-reuse project, but as a living symbol of the future of leisure spaces in the tropics.
