Organised by the British Consulate-General in Shanghai, the UK Department for Business and Trade (UKDBT), and Hongkong Land, the “China-UK Commercial Real Estate Salon: ESG Innovation and Sustainable Practices in Commercial Real Estate” — an exclusive, invitation-only gathering — was successfully held at WestBund Central, Shanghai, on 22 April.
As a long-term collaborator with Hongkong Land and part of the architectural design team behind the WestBund Central project, Benoy was invited to participate. Yejia Zhu, Project Director, and Victoria Li, Senior Architect, represented Benoy at the roundtable.
With the escalation of global climate change and the growing emphasis on corporate social responsibility, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards have become a key benchmark for evaluating a company’s social impact and long-term value. In response, government agencies, industry organisations, and financial exchanges worldwide have introduced ESG disclosure guidelines and regulatory frameworks. ESG reporting by listed companies has now become an irreversible trend across capital markets.
The roundtable focused on ESG innovation within the commercial real estate sector. Hongkong Land opened the session by sharing their ESG vision and achievements in the field.
Yejia Zhu, together with leading ESG practitioners from the UK, spanning architecture, environmental services, retail, and other professional sectors, as well as Chinese partners, participated in discussions exploring ESG considerations, sustainability strategies, and the opportunities and challenges encountered in project implementation.
The event concluded with a lively networking session, fostering further dialogue and collaboration among attendees.
