Benoy Design Director Gregory Kovacs recently delivered an insightful talk at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea, invited by Professor Hwang Soe Won from the School of Architecture and Building Science. The session centered on the challenges and opportunities architects encounter in today’s real estate environment, engaging second-year students in thoughtful discussions.
Gregory emphasised the importance of sustainability and advocated for a shift towards adaptive reuse projects. He highlighted how this approach not only mitigates environmental issues but also aligns with the current economic landscape.
Discussing adaptive reuse across multiple scales, from urban planning to building design and interior spaces, he showcased the creative potential at each level through real-life case studies. He showcased the Cross Street Redevelopment project in the heart of Singapore’s CBD, demonstrating how the seamless integration of old and new elements can revitalise existing developments.
The talk fostered a lively dialogue, with many questions from the students, making it a highly engaging and educational experience. Benoy remains committed to nurturing future talent in the design industry, empowering the next generation of architects and designers.
