Komal Datta, Divisional Director at Benoy, recently spoke at the Realty+ Harit Bharat Leadership Summit & Awards 2024 in Mumbai.
The panel discussion topic was Green Construction – Intersection of Sustainability & Innovation, examining sustainable real estate practices. Komal spoke about passive design and the importance of decisions that we take at the early stages of design that have a profound impact on creating efficient, carbon neutral buildings.
As part of this discussion, Komal discussed:
- The tools and software we use at Benoy to enhance sustainability performance and help our architects make these informed decisions
- Adaptive reuse and how renovating underperforming or aging assets can help with significant savings in embodied carbon emissions.
- Biophilic design, use of new innovative materials and their effect on operational carbon.
- What we can do on an individual level, on a day to day basis — how we travel and how we run our business and practices.
The macro view was that government policy and building codes need to support and lay the path for the entire construction industry to have sustainability at the heart of their design thinking, and only this will truly make an impact at scale.
