Benoy Design Director, Gregory Kovacs, had the honour of being invited as a jury member for the esteemed 13th Idea-Tops Award. The award ceremony took place on January 11th, 2024, in Shenzhen. During the event, Gregory delivered a captivating speech at the master forum entitled “Globalisation Wave, Regional Cooperation, and Urban Agglomeration Evolution.”
The Idea-Tops Award, renowned for its international participation and influence, received over 7,000 entries from across 70 countries and regions worldwide. The award ceremony was attended by government officials and representatives from Guangdong, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macau, as well as esteemed international architects and designers. The event, which included a cocktail party and gala dinner, served as a valuable platform for networking and collaboration among industry professionals.
During the master forum, Gregory delved into the importance of adopting a nuanced and highly contextual approach, highlighting the synergy between local heritage and international design. Rather than perceiving them as opposing forces, he advocated for their harmonious integration. He also shared his personal journey of overseeing Asian projects while based in London, which ultimately led him to relocate to Asia in order to authentically merge global and local elements.
The Idea-Tops Award encompasses 23 categories, spanning urban design, architectural design, landscape design, interior design, and lighting environment. Evaluation criteria for the awards focus on innovation, functionality, artistry, and environmental protection. This thorough assessment framework ensures that outstanding projects, meeting the highest professional standards and contributing positively to the industry, receive well-deserved recognition.
