Gregory Kovacs, Design Director at Benoy’s Hong Kong studio, had the privilege of serving as the Jury Chair for the lighting design workshop titled “The Quality That Lights Up.” This remarkable three-day event, curated by Italian Design Icons (IDI) in collaboration with Design School of Xi’an Jiaotong — Liverpool University (XJTLU), and the renowned Italian lighting design company, iGuzzini, encompassed exhibitions, discussions, workshops, and activities.
The workshop comprised two stages, with an aim to foster collaboration and innovation, providing participants with the opportunity to explore and envision the future of lighting design. In the first phase, students conducted speculative design research, analysing trends and scenarios across different time frames. The second phase witnessed participants translating their research and inspirations into impactful lighting designs for residential spaces. These designs were showcased and meticulously evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges, who selected the most promising creations.
The design contest and award ceremony took place during the 8th Italian Design Icons – Shanghai Edition exhibition, featuring a variety of globally renowned Italian brands such as Maserati and Ducati. The showcase emphasised innovative products and projects of high quality and impactful designs.
Congratulations to the talented students from XJTLU’s Architecture and Industrial Design departments for their outstanding contributions to lighting designs! We extend our gratitude to IDI for inviting Gregory as the Jury Chair, allowing him to contribute his expertise and guidance to this extraordinary endeavour.
At Benoy, we are dedicated to nurturing future talents and driving innovation in the design industry. We look forward to more collaboration opportunities with institutions like XJTLU Design School in the future.
