New Project Opening: Lanzhou MixC, Gansu, China

Congratulations to Gansu TianHong JinYun Property Development Co., Ltd. on the successful opening of Lanzhou MixC, a brand-new high-end commercial complex located in Gansu, China. The mall officially opened its doors on 26th April 2023, marking a new landmark in the city and setting a new standard for retail and lifestyle experiences in the northwest region of China.

Benoy was responsible for the architecture design of the retail podium, interior design of the shopping mall and office towers, signage design of exterior areas and office towers, as well as landscape design at the roof top of the retail podium.

Teri Tsang, Director, Hong Kong Studio Lead, shared her thoughts on the project:

Lanzhou MixC is a testament to the power of innovative design in shaping modern urban spaces. We sought to create a distinctive and memorable destination that integrates retail, entertainment, and cultural experiences, positioning the city to become an international consumption center. The design is derived from the unique context of Lanzhou, with its natural landscape and cultural heritage, resulting in a dynamic and immersive environment that captures the spirit of the city.”

With a total commercial area of 158,000 sqm, including 84,000 sqm of retail space, the commercial floors span multiple levels, from B1-LG, L1-L8. Additionally, the complex includes two Grade‑A office towers, making it a hub for business and leisure in the city.

Kali Chan, Design Director for Interiors at Benoy, explained the design inspiration behind the development:

Our design team drew inspiration from the dynamic movements of Lanzhou, a city located on the banks of the Yellow River, to create a unique and captivating design for Lanzhou MixC. The design showcases the constantly evolving nature of the city, its diverse cultural heritage, and the energetic vibe that characterizes Lanzhou. The ceiling design is characterized by flux and curves, creating a sense of continuity and fluidity throughout the mall.”

Lanzhou MixC is a significant development in the northwest region of China, serving as a catalyst for consumer upgrades in the provinces of Gansu, Qinghai, and Ningxia. The mall features nearly 300 luxury brands, including many first stores in both the city and the region, offering a high-end luxury experience that is unmatched in the area. Visitors can enjoy a diverse range of retail options, from luxury fashion brands to high-end restaurants and entertainment venues. With over 70% of the restaurants being the first to enter the city, Lanzhou MixC delivers a unique and exciting dining experience. The mall’s state-of-the-art facilities and amenities provide visitors with a premium shopping and lifestyle experience, ushering in a new era of luxury and sophistication in the northwest region of China.

In addition to its impressive brand and store selection, Lanzhou MixC offers a range of creative marketing surprises that reflect its commitment to promoting cultural exchange. The mall has hosted several art exhibitions, including the first exhibition of Salvador Dali’s art in the Northwest region and Gansu province’s first exhibition of the National Geographic classic image collection, Beyond 130 Years. The shopping complex also features a small art space created by local artists, where exhibitions and art experiences serve as the main forms of expression, showcasing diverse and inclusive lifestyles and cultural landscapes.
