Nina Mall: Bringing a renewed vibrant sense of place in the heart of Tsuen Wan West

Nina Mall 1 is located in the heart of Tsuen Wan West District, and is Chinachem Group’s flagship project in the New Territories West. Nina Mall is a vibrant destination for shoppers, diners and young families. Home to 100+ retail shops and 20+ restaurants, Nina Mall 1 spans 3 concept floors which distinct themes: Watch and Jewellery Street, Souvenir Street and Sportswear Zone. In addition to its exceptional selection of international and local brands, Nina Mall incorporates Nina Hotel and Convention Centre and Nina Park Wood Fossil Garden to offer a one-stop shop for hospitality, retail and entertainment.

Nina Mall is situated under a hotel tower and office block. It has a bus terminus and is connected by footbridge to other major malls in the area, as well as to the MTR West Rail Line station.

With several established malls and upcoming new malls in the area, Nina Mall was in need of a major overhaul to make it standout in the market. One of the key challenges was to blend new design elements with existing features the client was keen to retain. To address this issue, our designers worked closely with contractors on site to tailor specific design details that seamlessly integrate old and new. And though challenged by a number of constraints relating to existing structures, cost and construction time, the design fully optimizes the site’s potential, enhancing the overall retail experience while introducing a central atrium for pop-up events. Adding a layer of multimedia interactivity and engagement, these events can be broadcast, via façade-mounted LED screens, to the adjacent outdoor spaces.

The Nina Mall design scheme is based on the concept of a lifestyle shopping destination. It features many F&B outlets where professional executives can dine and relax, while its connection to the Nina Hotel provides a wealth of food and retail options for those staying in the tower above. The design language incorporates strong vertical and linear dimensions, creating a sense of place and clarity of experience which make the mall a landmark branded destination.

In addition to the design detail, the materials used shape a rich and opulent outlook, while a perforated ceiling accommodates existing MEP services and enables ease of access for maintenance. In the 2021 refurbishment, this careful selection of materials, and incorporation of green features in the renovation works, resulted in Nina Mall 1 attaining the HKBEAM Plus Gold certification – a fitting reflection of the long-term sustainable value that enhances the project’s design qualities and commercial potential.
