Benoy warmly congratulates Hongkong Land and KWG Group on the official launch of the Chengdu Huanqiuhui WE City project. Benoy provided architectural services for the project, which is slated to be completed in 2023.
WE City is a commercial complex development located in a prime location of Jinjiang District, the new financial centre of Chengdu. It was jointly developed by Hong Kong Land and KWG Group. Among the landmarks in the area are trendy shopping malls, serviced apartments and offices, as well as the 200-metre-high, 5‑star Hyatt hotel.
Integrating large shopping malls, Grade‑A office buildings, and five-star hotels, Chengdu Huanqiuhui WE City is positioned as a local landmark-level mid-to-high-end urban commercial complex, involving a total construction area ofnearly 300,000 square meters, including an area of100,000 A shopping mall with square meters, two Grade A office buildings with a total area of165,000 square meters and a five-star hotel with a total area of25,000 square meters.
Benoy was tasked with masterplanning this prominent mixed-site as well as delivering the heart of the scheme, WE City, to create a “Living Mall”. The brief called for an integrated community hub which would not only be a landmark retail destination but a place to bring together arts, culture and events.
The scheme’s 80,000 m² retail podium is connected to the development’s two towers (100m and 200m), where the highest one accommodates the five-star Hyatt Hotel. The hotel amenities are integrated with multiple-level landscape gardens facilitating different outdoor activities that take place at the podium roof terrace. Two separated malls are connected through a highly transparent “glass box”, where this triple height building becomes an extraordinary arts & cultural space for the community.
Looking to the future, Chengdu Global Exchange WE City will cater to the various needs of local middle-class families and business people in the district, and will be positioned as a diversified new business, lifestyle and social center.
