Qin Pang speaks at the 2021 CTBUH Virtual Conference

The 2021 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference and Awards Ceremony will be held online from 18th — 20th May. We are delighted that the tower building of Gala Avenue Westside in Lujiazui, Shanghai, has received the Award of Excellence” in the category of Best Tall Building under 100 Metres”.

Qin Pang, Director, Head of the Benoy Shanghai Office and chief architect of the project, was honored to be invited by CTBUH as a speaker at a topical panel discussion. The panel session, to be held on May 20th 10:00am China time, is entitled What are the Unique Opportunities and Challenges in Designing High-Density in Asia?’

As home to some of the world’s most densely populated cities, Asia’s natural inclination has been to build upward rather than outward in order to provide housing, workspace, amenities, and even outdoor space for its residents. Thus, with demand clearly rooted in need, necessity is often the mother of innovation for Asia’s tallest and most prominent projects. With such rapid construction timelines however, there is also the risk of monotonous design. This session speakers will discuss the importance of balancing placemaking and environmental excellence with efficiency and safety.

Other speakers at the panel session include Peter Duncan (China Regional Practice Leader, SOM), Ali Moghaddasi (Chief Development Officer, Mulia Group), Bryant Lu (Vice Chairman, Ronald Lu & Partners) and Xiaomei Lee (Regional Managing Principal, Greater China, Gensler).

Additionally, the project presentation of Gala Ave Westside will be broadcasted at 9:15am ‑11:00 am, Tuesday 18 May 2021 (China time) at Session 2 Track A – Best Tall Building Award: Under 100m (Part 2).
