The 2020 ULI China Real Estate Investment Summit kicked off on the 9th of December. Matthew Bibbey, Associate Director from Benoy Shanghai, was invited to participate in the panel on “Property & Real Estate Technology” on the afternoon of the 10th December.
Matthew gave a short presentation on how technology has shaped the design process covering generative design, advanced visualization, the rise of mixed reality and the overlay of the digital upon the physical, with a focus on pedestrian flow simulation/analysis and environmental design.
The presentations were followed by a Q&A session in which participants discussed points of interest within Prop Tech. A key discussion point was the combined role of AI and simulation in testing, developing and justifying design.
Matthew had this to say,
“The leveraging of data from our existing commercial complex’s as seen with Turing’s smart robots and the IOT sensors of iDRC, will in the future, enable us as architects to analyze opportunities for refining of space, adding efficiencies in flow of people and increased value for tenants based upon positional strategies – however as we embrace these new technologies, we must remember to balance commercial interests with creating great spaces for people to inhabit.”
The panel was moderated by Ken Rhee, ULI’s executive director for mainland China, and along with Matthew, the panel was joined by Mr. Cao Song, Founder and CEO of Turing INC, and Mr. Yanping Wang, CEO of iDRC.
