The Douala Grand Mall retail centre in Cameroon, Benoy’s first project in Francophone Africa, is on site and progressing rapidly.
Douala is an emerging city with a huge population base and the retail centre acts as a seed for re-generation of the airport locality. It provides a destination for the locals and importantly hinges around a landscaped public central plaza
Benoy Associate Director Arvind Kannan was recently on site in Douala to monitor the progress of the project as it enters its final stages. The site is active and hand over for fit outs are in progress. The façade is due for completion by April 2020.
Douala is the first mixed-use development of its kind in Cameroon and will consist of a mix of retail and civic spaces that integrate neatly into the landscape. An emphasis is being placed on ecologically sensitive design with an abundance of local flora around the site. The scheme is part of a drive to encourage economic growth in the area as new jobs and training are created for the local workforce.
Additionally, Douala entails a wider redevelopment with new waterways, drainage, and road access being created as a part of the key new infrastructure.
Douala is due to complete in April 2020.
