Benoy to redevelop heritage site Moshida Plaza on Shanghai’s West Nanjing Road

Benoy is partnering with Bright Food Group to redevelop Moshida Plaza, a heritage site originally built nearly 100 years ago and located on West Nanjing Road, one of Shanghai’s busiest commercial streets.

The project will see us transform Moshida Plaza into a world-class urban complex, with a strong focus on the Food and Beverage experience, including organic food experiences, food-themed retail and a high-end boutique hotel. The site will incorporate a five-storey shopping mall, with an additional three floors underground linking with the original Jing’an Ruitai Hotel.

Strategically located in the Shanghai Historical Conservation Area, the building overlooks Nanjing West Road to the north, Taixing Road to the west, and the famous Wujiang Road Pedestrian Street to the south, with Zhang’s Garden, the largest existing Shikumen complex in Shanghai, just a few steps away.

Benoy’s retail design is inspired by the brand name of Brightness and its connotations of randomly floating and roaming particles of light. Beginning on the second underground floor and running through to the fifth level, the renovated site will include a series of smart boxes’, adorned with green plants around a central atrium. The building façade will echo the existing heritage style of the area, whilst on the inside the enameled glass cube units will introduce a new design language.

Qin Pang, Director, Head of Benoy’s Shanghai Studio said: We’re excited to be working on the renovation of a key site on the West Nanjing Road. Through this project, we will celebrate the cultural and historical heritage of the city and bring new vigor and vitality to one of Shanghai’s most important commercial areas.”
