Benoy enhances portfolio with Sino Ocean Group Holding Ltd.

Benoy has been appointed for the fourth time by Sino Ocean Group Holding Ltd. The global design firm is leading the Masterplanning and Architecture for the new mixed-use destination in Wenzhou, China.

Situated in the historical centre of Wenzhou, the new 128,000m2 development is nestled in a heritage community site close to the city wall which can be traced back to the sixteenth century. Benoy was tasked with designing a mixed-use development that not only preserves its cultural importance but also one that acts as the new retail destination for Wenzhou. Home to a number of significant heritage sites including Mo Chi Park, the design strategically restores and reimagines historical elements of the site, reviving the city’s memory of the past.

Benoy’s design carefully crafts new blocks throughout the site which forms layers of public spaces aimed at creating a unique pedestrian experience. Through the regeneration of the traditional canal and delicate place making of landscaped plazas and walkways, the scheme harmoniously echoes the surrounding nature.

Senior Associate Director Hao Li commented: Urban regeneration schemes have the opportunity to create positive impact on any city. It is incredibly exciting to be expanding our portfolio of regeneration projects in China. By blending the past with the present, we’ve created a scheme in Wenzhou that injects an energetic new destination into a historic city.”

Benoy has a strong reputation in regeneration projects with the firm’s portfolio including Sino Ocean Ningbo, Nanjing MCC World, HARBOURCITY’s Gala Avenue Westside in Shanghai, The David Jones Flagship Building in Sydney and TSUM Department Store in Kiev.
