Benoy is proud to announce it has recently won the international design competition for Wuhan Guanggu Joy City. This is the third large-scale urban complex development project designed by Benoy Shanghai for COFCO, following the development of Joy City in Hangzhou and Joy Breeze in Suzhou.
Benoy is the Masterplanner and Architect for the project which aims to help provide a new landmark complex for Hubei’s provincial capital Wuhan and extend the success of the Joy City scheme.
Having been inspired by the city’s name which means “light valley”, the 450,000sqm design places an emphasis on light and energy. In response to this, Benoy designed pedestrianised walkways, encouraging continuity and giving visitors better access to the entire site. Bridges that connect the commercial space to the outdoor recreational space will also help to form a multi-dimensional experience. Other key highlights include the roof space which will feature a circular jogging track, a tree-house hotel and various facilities for children.
The area boasts excellent transportation access, putting it on track to become Wuhan’s new hub. The multi-functional space will transform the city into a central and leading commercial destination.
