Benoy’s project Vadistanbul Shopping Mall, located near Belgrade Forest, north of Istanbul, celebrated its grand opening this month. Headed up by Jacqueline Beckingham, Global Creative Director and Jolize Brazelle, Associate Director, Benoy’s scope included the interior design for this retail centre.
As one of the largest shopping malls in Turkey, the space has a leasable area of 103 thousand m² and is a joint venture between Artaş, Invest Joint Venture and Evyap, who are among the most prominent firms in the construction sector.
Set to be a favourite address for shopping, with one of the highest retail footfalls in Istanbul, the scheme has been designed with the “dynamics of the 4th generation shopping mall” in mind. Combining leading fashion brands housed within 230 stores, high quality F&B, as well as entertainment facilities and movie theatres, all amenities maximise on the unique natural scenery, to heighten the shopping experience.
Externally, the elliptic decorative pool with a surface area of 2000 m², offers a dramatic focal point for a sense of arrival outside the primary entrance of the mall. While internally, distinguished, eco-friendly architectural features and pause points allow visitors to leisurely enjoy the space while shopping. It also features carefully considered design details, such as the Pixel LED lighting technology running throughout, for a sense of light and airiness.
“This was a project which was well advanced on paper when we were invited to design the interior, following our earlier work at Koruflorya for members of the client team. We proposed some radical changes which fundamentally altered the design direction but I’m delighted to say almost all of our ideas were executed.” Jacqueline Beckingham, Global Creative Director, Benoy.
Benoy worked with a local consultant, Artas Aydinli and interior design firm, 3XKO on this scheme.
