Return to Future Thinking

Who or what inspired you to become a designer?

I think I was always going to have a creative career. I grew up with an architect father, and at home, we were always surrounded by drawings, pens, material samples and design books. We were always visiting design offices and construction sites as well. For me, choosing architecture (interior design being part of my architecture course at the time) was the most logical and natural path to follow.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love the fact that everything we put in a drawing is about creating the best places and spaces for people. Through our designs, we can influence the way people are living, dining, and shopping.

What are you working on just now?

We have a number of interesting mixed-use projects on the drawing board, all in different settings, all having specific requirements and a unique story to tell.

What is exciting you in interior design just now?

I really enjoy playing with the different design scenarios, and working across different environments and cultures. It’s fun working with the team to explore each of these and guide them on which designs will work best.

What’s your creative process – how do you come up with your best ideas?

I always try to imagine the end user and to think what they would like to see, use and experience in the best possible way.

Who or what is inspiring you at the moment?

Right now I’m fascinated by biophilic schemes that bring plants and nature into spaces. We have surrounded ourselves with too many artificial materials, textures and forms and detached from nature which is not good in the longer term. I’m keen to explore human scale and nature-inspired designs and materials, to bring people closer to nature.
