More than a business hotel
EAST Hotel is a high-end, contemporary hotel that has been designed as part of the wider, mixed-use INDIGO development in Beijing. Connected to the 68,000m2 INDIGO Mall and the 58,000m2 INDIGO ONE commercial tower, EAST Hotel is so much more than the usual stand-alone, business hotel.
Within a small foot plate of 49,000m2, Benoy’s Team ensured the design could accommodate all the facilities required of this ‘Brand’ of hotel. As such, the 369-key EAST Hotel includes 23 suites, a Business Zone, a two-storey Executive Lounge, a Fitness and Well-Being Centre featuring an indoor infinity pool, sauna, massage pool and gymnasium.
Located between Beijing’s 4th and 5th Ring Roads, the development is perfectly located for business with close proximity to the capital’s National Exhibition Centre and International Airport.
Connecting with the city
The architecture has been inspired by its location; Chaoyang’s urban cityscape to the west and the district’s parklands to the east. The curvature of the hotel tower was designed to capitalise on the panoramic views over the eastern setting. Reaffirming the relationship with the landscape, 70%
of the guest rooms and all the cafés and restaurants have been located along the curved façade and all feature generous
floor-to-ceiling picture windows.
Responding to the desire to promote the culture of Beijing, Benoy’s design has been heavily inspired by the neighbouring and famous 798 art district.
The reception area alludes to the layout of a gallery; with clean lines, minimal furniture and space to showcase two permanent installations by local contemporary artists. Guest rooms showcase bespoke photography from hidden areas of Beijing has created feature walls, illustrating the spirit of the city.
To continue the connection with nature, the use of natural materials such as locally sourced, sustainable wood, bamboo and stone have been incorporated into the interior decoration. This cool and contemporary décor is complemented by
a minimal colour palette.
A dramatic feature staircase is a statement design piece for the hotel lobby; muted metallic rods rise into the void above.
In the guest rooms, personal technology and amenities have been incorporated in
a way which does not detract from the interior design.
Continuing the boutique atmosphere, the bathrooms are luxuriously sized and include rain showers. A stand-alone bath positioned next to the full-height glass windows adds surprise in some suites, going beyond the experience normally associated with a business hotel.
Benoy worked closely with the client to ensure that EAST Hotel was created with an environmental agenda in mind. Whilst seeking a sustainable solution, Benoy’s Team was able to balance this vision with a design-led approach. As a result, the hotel has been awarded the prestigious LEED Gold award for New Construction.
