City within a city

Occupying a coveted location within the Central Business District (CBD), Chengdu International Finance Square (IFS) has commenced a new chapter for western China. Currently the largest project in operation in Chengdu, the scheme is recognised as a prominent commercial landmark for the city.

Developed as a ‘City within a city’, Chengdu IFS has been designed to be a world-class, one-stop destination uniting Retail, Leisure, Entertainment, Hospitality, Commerce, Culture and Art.

The heart of the flagship scheme is the 210,000m2 Retail Podium. It establishes a strong architectural presence for the development at street level and the main arch-like skylight encircling the podium pulls natural daylight down into the lower retail levels.

Four towers which house international Grade A Offices, a 5-Star Hotel and luxury residential properties directly integrate with the retail component to offer the ultimate in high-end, mixed-use destinations.

Chengdu IFS is also known for being a green city within a city, and was awarded the first LEED EBOM Platinum certification in Southwest China for its energy efficient design.

Embracing art and culture

Benoy’s concept reflects Chengdu’s personality and celebrates the city’s art, culture and history.

A feature of the commercial scheme, the podium rooftop was conceived as a ‘Sky Garden’. This space is brought to life by sculptures displaying the work of influential artists. Vibrant, al fresco dining and an
Art Gallery surround the landscaped area
to create a desirable venue for events
and recreation.

Connecting with the city’s historic roots,
the Antiquity Plaza is an attractive feature for visitors. Celebrating Chengdu’s importance as one of China’s oldest cities, numerous artefacts from the Tang and Song Dynasties found on site have been preserved through diligent planning and are now displayed through glass viewing decks on the ground level.

Sensitive to the existing environment, the masterplanning and architecture have taken cues from the thoroughfares surrounding the development.Along the ‘Urban edge’ facing Hong Xing Road, a bold architectural language with unique ‘Box’ retail stores forms a striking concept. On the south side, the massing of the development facing the ‘Park edge’ has been broken down to respect the neighbouring temple parklands.

A luxury retail landmark

The sweeping and luxurious interiors were inspired by the desire to introduce a sense of indulgence to the shopping experience.

Covering six above ground and two below ground levels, the flagship development has attracted an international collection of luxury, fashion, lifestyle and jewellery brands. A reflection of its prominence, Chengdu IFS has been chosen by around 90 retailers making their debut in the city including Chanel, Balenciaga, Burberry, Christian Louboutin, Dior & Dior Homme and Valentino.

With direct connectivity to the MTR and each of the components, the retail scheme is an example of visual transparency and strong wayfinding principles. More than a high-end retail development, Benoy’s design has created a memorable new lifestyle destination for Chengdu.
