Our People

Gustavo van StaverenDesign DirectorNewark

Gustavo leads multidisciplinary teams on complex schemes, shaping a clear design vision while translating the needs of clients, stakeholders and end users into coherent, deliverable solutions. His particular strength is protecting the integrity of an idea as it moves through the realities of design and construction, keeping clarity, ambition and buildability aligned at every stage. He brings creativity, technical rigour and a commitment to sustainable thinking to work at every scale, from large international developments to carefully considered responses to specific contexts. His experience spans Asia, the Middle East, India, South America and Europe. A long-standing interest in cultural anthropology and the human experience of space shapes his approach: design as a way of understanding how people live, gather, move and identify with place, as much as a technical and aesthetic exercise. Before joining Benoy, Gustavo worked at UNStudio, OMA, MAD and MVRDV on projects including the Harbin Opera, Chaoyang Park Plaza, Nanjing Zendai Himalayas, Vanke Headquarters, the Sunac masterplan, the Prague airport Terminal 1 extension and NEOM.
