Challenge

Benoy were briefed to create a communal hub that provided opportunities for retail and leisure space, while also enabling public transport and infrastructure improvements. Regenerated from a 16-hectare brownfield site, Westfield London had to own a sense of identity among London’s iconic buildings.

Solution

To optimise commercial potential, we created food, leisure and retail zones with distinctive identities, pushing the boundaries of what’s expected in retail space. Seamless connections with the public transport network were integrated to centralise the development.

Result

Westfield London is one of the leading retail and leisure centres in the UK, covering 120,000 sqm. It boasts 280 shops and 47 restaurants, and welcomed two million visitors within the first three weeks of opening. It has an open-air feel, thanks to the asymmetrical roof pattern that tracks the movement of the sun.
