Luxury retail at the heart of Lujiazui
Shanghai IFC Mall occupies approximately 110,000m2 across six floors within the larger Shanghai IFC complex in Lujiazui, a 3.7 million square foot mixed-use development comprising Grade-A offices, The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai and IFC Residence serviced apartments, developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties. Benoy provided interior design and wayfinding throughout the mall, which connects directly to Lujiazui Metro Line 2 station.
The interior design adopts a multi-layered geometric approach, combining textures and graphic motifs to differentiate the mall’s levels. Upper floors housing luxury brands are distinguished from the lower and basement levels through an applied graphic language, while express escalators support efficient movement between zones. The result is a retail environment that is a coherent as whole, but legible in its parts, guiding visitors intuitively through a hierarchy of offer
Material quality and spatial drama
Angular skylights above the retail atria bring natural light deep into the mall’s interior. Suspended crystal sculptures, ambient lighting and high-specification material finishes establish a register of quality consistent with the luxury brands housed within. The 10-metre-high ceilings of the Star Avenue anchor the most prominent retail corridor, giving flagship tenants the scale their presence demands.
