A visual language drawn from Oxford’s newest building

Visual identity for the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities at the University of Oxford, a new addition to the university that brings the Humanities into a single building and welcomes the public to a new concert hall at its heart.

A logo drawn from the architecture

The identity takes its cue from the Centre’s architectural centrepiece, translating the geometry of the building into a mark alive with activity and the exchange of ideas. Simplified architectural elements form the base of the logo, with hidden books woven into the design as a quiet signal of the department’s commitment to scholarship and enquiry.

An Oxford language

The wider visual system is derived from deconstructing the shapes within the logo, opening out into a family of forms that carry the identity across signage, wayfinding, publications and digital touchpoints. It is designed to hold together with an unmistakably Oxford accent, giving scholars, students and public audiences moments of recognition and delight.

Colour and materiality

Oxford Blue leads the palette as a signal of the University’s institutional heritage and academic authority, supported by Sandstone as a reference to the façade materiality of the building itself.
