Stadium expansion and a new riverside stand for Nottingham Forest’s City Ground
The City Ground has been Nottingham Forest’s home on the banks of the River Trent since 1898. The stadium’s expansion that was approved by Rushcliffe Borough Council in June 2025, will see the existing Peter Taylor Stand demolished and replaced with a new 10,000-seat structure, increasing total capacity to approximately 35,000 and establishing the City Ground as the largest football stadium in the East Midlands. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2026. Benoy has designed the new stand, working with the club on a scheme that responds to both the stadium’s riverside setting and the ambitions of a club competing at the top of English football.

A three-tier centrepiece
The new Peter Taylor Stand rises across three tiers under a dramatic cantilevered roof, its roofline reaching approximately 67 metres above the riverside, creating a striking new presence on the Trent skyline. State-of-the-art player facilities are housed within the stand, alongside a range of hospitality suites scaled to serve different audience groups on matchdays and a programme of non-matchday uses including conference and event spaces. A new club museum and club shop are incorporated within the ground floor, activating the building’s street-facing frontage. The design draws on best-in-class research into contemporary stadium experience to deliver a stand that meets the expectations of Premier League and European football while retaining the character of one of England’s most historic football grounds.
