Bringing ease of navigation to an iconic London landscape
King’s Cross is one of London’s largest and most populated urban regeneration projects, a 67-acre former industrial railway site transformed into a dense, mixed-use city quarter, home to offices, shops, galleries, bars, restaurants, two schools and a university campus. As new streets and squares have opened in phases, navigating the site’s scale and complexity has demanded a wayfinding system with both design integrity and the ability to evolve.
Inspired by the railways
Our design draws directly from the site’s industrial heritage, taking the vanishing points of converging railway tracks as the organising visual principle. That concept is expressed consistently through materials, form and typology, a system that feels rooted in place rather than applied to it.
Designed to keep pace with the site
Adaptability was equally central to the approach. As new zones and routes have opened across the estate, information has been updated quickly and cleanly without disrupting the coherence of the whole. Integrated with the surrounding architecture, the scheme has improved legibility across the estate and its connections beyond, contributing to King’s Cross’s standing as one of London’s most prominent urban destinations.
