Pang Qin in the 2020 – 2022 RIBA China Architect 100 Programme Release

Benoy is delighted to announce that following a two-year selection process, Pang Qin, Director and Head of the Shanghai Studio, has been chosen as one of the 100 Chinese architects in the 2020 – 2022 RIBA China Architect 100 Programme launched by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

As an international and long-standing professional body for architects, RIBA has been serving the world’s civil architecture industry and facilitating its growth and further development since it was founded in 1834. It serves a global community of around 55,000 member architects in 115 countries, actively promoting their professional advancement. In the past few years, RIBA’s global presence has been further reaffirmed by the opening of two international offices, one of which is located in Shanghai, China. Since then, RIBA has been collaborating with a range of outstanding Chinese architects, conveying to the world the importance of China’s architectural experience for global development.

Over the past two years, RIBA has been observing, interpreting and exploring the works of renowned Chinese architects from a RIBA perspective, and ultimately determined the list of architects chosen for the China Architect 100 programme. This list reflects RIBA’s attention to and recognition of the need for a diverse and international community of architects. It includes Chinese architects covering a variety of generations, architectural fields and talents.

RIBA will publish the results of this programme on a global platform. The publishing process will be split into three stages:

Stage one
An electronic publication will be released at the end of March introducing all 100 selected architects. The electronic publication will be published in Chinese and English, and will be widely distributed in China, the UK and other global markets on channels such as WeChat, Weibo, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Stage two
A film of some of the architects will be made by the end of December 2022 promoted in China via the RIBA app and the RIBA YouTube channel. This will also be further integrated with social media to ensure wide coverage.

Stage three
Travelling exhibitions in various cities in China and Portland Place in London. Over the next 12 months, we will continue to plan and push forward this initiative. The series of exhibitions is currently planned to be held in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chongqing in China, London in the UK, and other places.

RIBA China Architect 100 is RIBA’s most significant project since entering the Chinese market. RIBA hopes that through its platform, China’s architects will be provided with opportunities for global growth, including cultural exchanges, academic research, design practice and more.

We would like to once again to thank RIBA for its great efforts in continuing to seek out architects with outstanding personal style and social contributions in the field of Chinese architecture, from the professional perspective of an international platform.
