City Walk, Abuja, ‘The Living Ravine’, shortlisted for World Landscape Architecture Awards 2026
We’re excited to share that City Walk, Abuja, ‘The Living Ravine’, a project for MAG International Links, has been shortlisted for the World Landscape Architecture Awards in the category: Conceptual | Masterplanning & Urban Design.
Located on the outer edge of Abuja, Nigeria, along the airport corridor, the mixed-use masterplan responds to one of the defining challenges facing rapidly growing cities: how can landscape become essential infrastructure for a more resilient future?
Avoiding treating open space as residual land, the design places hydrology at its core. The existing creek is transformed into a continuous green spine, with wetlands, swales, and floodable parks working together to slow, store and filter stormwater while creating flexible recreational space to be used in dry periods.
Evolving through iterative feedback between landscape design and hydrological modelling with the close collaboration of drainage engineers, a framework has been developed that adapts to seasonal rainfall, supports biodiversity, and enables everyday social life.
The Living Ravine demonstrates how landscape can function as infrastructure, doing more to enhance and shape the future of cities. By combining flood adaptation, ecological restoration, and public life, the project offers a decentralised and scalable model for healthier, sustainable, and more liveable urban development.
