Benoy on the panel for Future Cities Forum 7: Art, Investment & Cities at RIBA

Robert Bentley, Director at Benoy was a panelist on the Future Cities Forum 7: Art, Investment & Cities talk which was held at RIBA, London earlier in the year.

The panel discussion brought together art museum leaders and gallery directors along with city councils, funding bodies, urban planners, developers and architects, to discuss the importance of investing in art and cultural buildings, events and experiences in creating cities that are successful and sustainable, both socially and economically.

There’s been a common thread to this debate which has been about creating a mix of uses that it is not just about retail anymore. It’s about greater depth, and links between housing, offices, museums and restaurants. The mix needs to be carefully curated. We don’t want zones where elements shut at 5.30 pm but we want to blur the boundaries. The thing that knits it all together is the public realm and that is where the political muscle from the Local Authority comes in.” Robert Bentley, Director, Benoy
