CITIC Limited, China State Shipbuilding Corporation

Size

153,000m2

Challenge

Formerly a significant shipyard bringing a wealth of commercial energy to the area, the client wanted to utilise the prime waterfront space by bringing future business prospects. Benoy was asked to propose the masterplan, architecture and interior architecture, bringing a new identity to the site.

Solution

We aimed to instil a community feel with a people-orientated design to connect the sprawling site. Our solution focused on a chain of squares in various levels to mirror a simple streetscape for easy navigation.

Result

With views across the Huangpu River and city beyond, Gala Avenue Westside is a high-end shopping, entertainment and business hub. It encourages exploration with green spaces and streets weaving between the 12 interlocking buildings. A 100m office tower takes pride of place in the development and gives it a sense of identity.
