New lease of life
Located at the very start of the famous Orchard Road, Plaza Singapura is an extended and refurbished retail destination.
The redevelopment of the scheme saw the amalgamation and creative conversion of three floors of prime commercial space from two separate towers into a single unified retail space.
Seamlessly integrated with the existing Dhoby Ghaut MRT interchange beneath, the new scheme enhances the public realm and improves pedestrian connectivity in the area.
Dynamic façade identity
The key feature of Plaza Singapura’s revived design was the introduction of a new ‘Energetic’ façade. Wrapping around the existing mall and office towers, it brings together the three previously separate components. The elegant, fluid ribbon-like design was inspired by the flow of the nearby historic Stamford Canal.
The underused plaza facing Orchard Road was also brought back to life through the addition of several large canopies so enhancing the active frontage.
The interior of the scheme benefits from the creation of two large new atria between the existing towers. Natural daylight now floods in and has opened up the space down to the MRT station
Complementing the façade, the interior design focuses on dynamic forms and flowing patterns resulting in a retail environment unrecognisable from its previous commercial use.
Green Mark Gold Award
In 2011, Plaza Singapura received the Green Mark Gold Award. Sustainable products such as low-W coated doubled glazed glass and Singapore Green Label Scheme (SGLS) certified materials were used and contributed to considerable energy and water savings for the scheme.
