Adding to Benoy's growing design portfolio in Shanghai, Plaza 889 is the major retail component of a wider mixed-use scheme.
Located in the greater city area, the project has been inspired by the history of Shanghai, drawing on the two contrasting sides of the inner city’s Huangpu River.
Spread over four podium levels, the 40,500m2 scheme is planned around an internal shopping ‘Street’ which is covered by a grand, glazed roof.
The retail space has two distinct designs; on one side of the central atrium, traditional references highlight the heritage of the famous Bund area. On the opposite side, modern detailing captures the essence of Shanghai’s Pudong district.
As the Interior Designer and the Graphic, Branding and Wayfinding Designer, Benoy carried the interior motifs through to the signage concept.
