Airport enhancement

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is one of Asia’s major air travel hubs and as such welcomes more than 60 million passengers each year. To help maintain its position as one of the world’s best designed and managed airports, Benoy was commissioned to complete a series of design renovations to Terminal 1.

The enhancements focused extensively on increasing the passenger handling capacity of the building. Required to work within the original airport design intent, Benoy’s Team was appointed to update the aesthetics and improve passenger amenities and security. Improvements were also made to the Commercial, Retail and Food and Beverage experiences within the main terminal.

The airport’s East Hall departure and arrival areas were expanded to allow for greater retail and commercial capacity.

Benoy implemented its knowledge of retail planning and circulation to increase the marketability and success of all the HKIA retail zones.
