Benoy's ‘Urban Park' Retail Mall Named Best Futura Project in China

November 2011

Benoy’s Hong Cheng Plaza, Guangzhou has been named ‘Best Chinese Futura Project’ at this year’s MIPIM Asia Awards. Against tough competition, Hong Cheng Plaza received Silver in the prestigious category.

Set in Guangzhou’s central axis at the heart of the city’s new CBD, this will be China’s first ‘urban park’ retail concept. Inspired by the major central parks around the world and the symbolism of the Chinese Carp fish, Benoy will deliver a ground-breaking tranquil urban oasis in the heart of thriving southern China.

In collaboration with Sun Hung Kai Properties, the three-storey 110,000m² Hong Cheng Plaza aims to set new international standards for sustainability in the retail sector. The design blends highly sustainable technology with a new pedestrian and public transport interchange, enhancing the capacity of the entire city.

Collecting the Award, Graham Cartledge CBE, Chairman of Benoy, said:

“We are honoured to receive this industry wide acknowledgement. Working with Sun Hung Kai to develop this quite extraordinary retail concept has been a highlight for Benoy’s design team. Innovative, commercial, sustainable and designed with people in mind, we truly believe that the highly anticipated Hong Cheng Plaza will set new benchmarks in international retail design.”
