Benoy’s first Taiwan project Megacity opens

February 2012

International award winning architect Benoy celebrates the completion of its first Taiwan project, with the opening of Megacity in New Taipei.

A 13-storey retail complex with approximately 60,000sqm retail area, Megacity is the largest department store in New Taipei. With a 5 screen cinema and an IMAX, plus gourmet offerings such as Citysuper and Food Republic in the basement, Megacity marks a new generation of department store in Taiwan.

The interior design was inspired by the exterior Japanese origami architectural concept, and this has been realised through the use of strong geometric design and folding features. Each level has been given its own character and identity to reflect the merchandise being sold on each floor. For example Megacity 9/F is the food level, and here Benoy has fashioned this into a triple-height Venetian plaza and food street, giving customers an opportunity to experience a taste of Venice in Taiwan.

Our client, Far Eastern Group, is one of the biggest and most experienced conglomerates operating in Taiwan and own two key department store lines, Sogo & FE’21. Benoy is proud to be continuing our collaboration with Far Eastern with the Hsin Chu Sogo Project and the Megacity Phase 2 project, expected for completion in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
