Benoy has once again opened its doors to the next generation of designers as part of its two-month summer internship programme. This year, the Hong Kong Studio welcomed ten students from both local and international universities to gain first-hand experience working closely with Architects and Interior Designers.
“We’re very proud to be able to offer this opportunity each year to university students who are eager to earn real world experience. Our internship allows these students to work within a design team, fulfilling the role of a design assistant which helps to shape them both professional and personally for their next career step,” said Kai Chung Ng, Senior Associate Director and the coordinator of the programme.
Accessible to students around the world, Benoy welcomed interns from Ryerson Unversity in Canada, the University of Cincinnati in the USA, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Each of the interns is paired with a Benoy designer who helps to guide and mentor the students through their work. At the conclusion of the programme, the interns are given the opportunity to present their own thoughts, concepts and ideas on a chosen topic, drawing on the skills they have gained.
Speaking about what they learnt through the programme, students Karen Cheung and Scarlett Tse said “Understanding how a design firm runs and how architects work has been one of best aspects of our internship. It has definitely helped in building up our mindsets as architects as we further our studies. We were amazed that we were able to work on a live façade design project.”
“The biggest lesson we have learnt is how to present well to clients. Beyond the drawings and designs, we have learnt that the way you express yourself is very important to how a concept will be understood by others,” said fellow students Alsia Lo, Ivy Li and Jessie Chui.
The programme will conclude at the end of August 2016 with the next intake planned for June 2017. Applications will open in March 2017. For more information on Benoy’s internship, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
