Benoy Volunteers with Food Angel

1 March 2016

Benoy’s Hong Kong Studio was proud to support Food Angel this February; spending an afternoon volunteering with the sustainable food rescue and assistance programme.

Food Angel provides over 6,000 free hot meals and food packs to people in need each day. The charity also rescues more than 4,000kg of surplus food daily from going to Hong Kong’s landfill; working towards their mission ‘Waste Not, Hunger Not’.

A team of 18 from the Hong Kong Studio were the first to join Benoy’s visit to Food Angel. In just three hours, the group prepared and packed more than 500 dinner boxes and later helped to serve them at the charity’s Community Centre.

It is estimated that around 960,000 people are living under the poverty line in Hong Kong, including one in five children. The elderly are also relying on support from groups such as Food Angel with one in three unable to meet their daily nutritional requirements.

Benoy was introduced to the Food Angel cause last year after participating in Canstruction Hong Kong; a unique charity event where food cans are used to build large art pieces and then later donated to charity groups.

The Hong Kong Team’s recent volunteering effort adds to the studio’s on-going support of local causes which also include Feeding Hong Kong and the annual Hong Kong Cleanup challenge. Driving charitable engagement through each of its global studios, Benoy’s on-going aim is to contribute to the wellbeing of the communities in which it operates.
