Benoy is excited to share the latest progress on Parc Central, Guangzhou – a new urban park retail experience in the heart of the city’s Central Business District.
Parc Central is in its final stages of completion and is set to celebrate its grand opening later this year. The site has recently welcomed one of the major anchor tenants, The Apple Store, which opened at the end of January. Benoy was commissioned as the Masterplanner, Architect and Interior Designer on the scheme and delivered the project in collaboration with Ronald Lu and Partners.
Sitting on the site of a former public square, the distinctive 110,000m2 retail development has been designed around an open parkland environment. With gardens, planted walkways and living walls, the undulating green space creates the heart of the scheme. Introducing a strong civic quality, the ‘Central Park’ will form the focal point for Guangzhou’s Green Axis.
A steel monocoque roof covers the development which sits two levels above ground and three levels below.
Architecturally, the design has been informed by the symbolic Chinese ‘Double fish’. The flowing geometry has created interesting spaces for retail, leisure and dining facilities which will overlook the landscaped setting. The Interior Design carries this fluid form into the development and has adopted a neutral colour palette to create maximum exposure for the tenants and merchandise within.
As a true Transit Oriented Development, Parc Central will also establish a new public transport interchange for Guangzhou. Seamlessly connected above and below ground, the development will be integrated with the city’s metro and bus network and linked by walkways to the district’s neighbouring buildings.
Parc Central adds to Benoy's expanding portfolio of work across the exciting Pearl River Delta region.
