Benoy, the international firm of Architects, Masterplanners, Interior and Graphic Designers, enjoyed a great evening of success at the Global RLI Awards 2015 last night. Held at the Meydan Hotel in Dubai, the Benoy Team was in impressive company; the esteemed audience represented the very best of the global Retail and Leisure sector.
The annual awards dinner was attended by colleagues from Benoy’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Studios, with Paul Priest, Benoy Director and Head of MENA, hosting the table.
Benoy was especially proud when The Beach was named the International Retail and Leisure Destination of the Year. This stunning development overlooking the Arabian Gulf is an open-air, low-rise development in the heart of Dubai. The Beach was also shortlisted in the Most Innovative Retail and Leisure Concept category.
Adjacent to Jumeirah Beach Residence, The Beach spans over 600m of waterfront, delivering 68 new outdoor retail and restaurant units, a cinema and an entertainment zone.
It was a special night having Benoy’s work highlighted alongside the full range of excellent nominees. The company had five projects in the running in five categories as well as being a finalist for Designer of the Year.
The Galleria on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi was nominated in the International Shopping Centre category for the second year running. This 33,000m2 mall, set within the opulent Sowwah Square scheme, offers a sophisticated yet relaxed customer experience.
Lan Kwai Fong Wuxi, China, was shortlisted as a Future Project 2015. Benoy’s design is derived from the concept of ‘East meets West’ and balances ‘Tradition and innovation’ in its creative philosophy.
In the running alongside The Beach in the International Retail and Leisure Destination category was also Les Terrasses du Port in Marseille, a striking retail scheme which looks onto the Mediterranean Sea.
Finally, nominated for the Hospitality Award was Ciputra Artpreneur, Indonesia. The complex, which includes a 1,200 seat theatre and flexible and permanent exhibition galleries, has been heralded as a major addition to the arts scene of Indonesia and indeed across the region.
Paul commented on the win, “We were delighted when we heard that a number of our projects had been shortlisted but to also come away with an award is a real honour!”
“At Benoy, we strive to design with inspiration, intelligence and integrity but ultimately we want to create places that people will enjoy. This award is testimony to the Team’s creative vision and commitment and I am immensely proud to be able to receive it on their behalf.”
Working within the ‘One Benoy’ ethos, the Benoy Team collaborates across the company’s ten studios ensuring that the client gets the very best design service; this win will no doubt be celebrated around the company.
Paul added, “We are privileged to be working with some of the most exciting and forward-thinking clients in the region and around the world, and we would like to thank them most sincerely for believing in Benoy.”
The awards dinner marked the conclusion of the RLI Connect networking showcase held 1-2 June at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai. The Benoy Team met with past, current and potential clients during the two day event.
This year is the tenth anniversary of the Global RLI Awards and Benoy was thrilled to be a part of the celebrations. The awards acknowledge the most innovative and exciting retail and leisure concepts from around the world and whilst Benoy has been the recipient of many RLI accolades over the years, to win in 2015 is perhaps extra special.
