Benoy is delighted to announce that The Galerie Šantovka, Olomouc, Czech Republic, has opened its doors at an official unveiling ceremony yesterday evening. Full trading of the 200 stores will commence today when the Centre opens its doors to the public.
Designed over three main trading levels, as well as an additional leisure and dining floor, Galerie Šantovka totals 46,000m² GLA.
The construction process involved the decontamination of a derelict post-industrial site and the creation of extensive landscaped areas, dining terraces and a Riverside ‘Green Corridor’.
Robert Bishop, Director at Benoy, led the design process and commented, ‘Together with Dandreet we have delivered a destination that delivers a retail environment complemented by leisure and dining facilities. The scheme is attractively located adjacent to the landscaped river gardens and interrogates an ecological green corridor.’
‘The development is noted for its dominant city centre location and excellent connection to transport links including the creation of a new tram-stop. We have made effective use of derelict land which would have otherwise remained underutilised despite the central location. The Galerie Šantovka will add a new dimension to the retail offer within Olomouc and the wider region.’
The project is the first of a number of collaborations between Benoy and Prague based developer Dandreet, led by Ludek Schmidt. The team is also working together on a scheme in Teplice, which is currently under construction and due for completion in 2014.
Bishop continues, ‘Galerie Šantovka is responsive to current demand for high quality shopping space within the Czech Republic. We are experiencing a cautiously optimistic recovery in parts of Europe. Consumer confidence is stabilising which translates into an increase in investor appetite for new developments. The bulk of activity emanates from established players, and we are optimistic about continued growth.’
Galerie Šantovka is the second delivered project for Benoy this year in the Czech Republic, Centrum Černý Most opened in May 2013.
