Benoy is delighted to be working with Chesterfield Borough Council and Wilson Bowden Developments on the transformation of Chesterfield’s Northern Gateway.
Benoy’s plans will regenerate the Donut roundabout area as part of a £50 million project. The scheme will deliver flexible retail space, restaurants, a supermarket, a cinema and a hotel – all centred around a new public area and community performance space above an undercroft car park. New residential and office space is also included.
Over 1,000 jobs will be created during the construction process and post-completion.
Robert Bentley, Senior Associate Director at Benoy is leading the project, and said:
‘We are delighted to be part of Wilson Bowden Development’s team, who were chosen as Chesterfield Borough Council’s partner. Benoy has a strong history of delivering high quality town centre regeneration projects throughout the UK and we are excited about what our designs will bring to the Northern Gateway.’
The designs are inspired by a contemporary interpretation of the ‘Town Square,’ with all the benefits of integrated commerce and leisure, technology, transportation and sustainable living. The project is designed to integrate with and complement the existing retail offer in the town centre and strengthen its leisure and evening economy.
Chesterfield Borough Council and Wilson Bowden are involving local residents and stakeholders in the decision-making process and have already undertaken an initial consultation exercise.
The scheme is currently on target to complete in 2015.
