Benoy is delighted to announce the launch of VIVA, a new retail development in the city centre of Odense, the largest city in Funen and the third largest city in Denmark.
Odense has long been identified as a prime location for international and domestic brands, and is a popular cultural and retail centre for the region, which is home to nearly half a million inhabitants.
Benoy was instructed by owner operator Steen & Strøm to deliver a cutting edge retail destination, which would emphasize but not dominate the city centre.
VIVA is designed to integrate into the fabric of the city and connect the new retail hub with downtown Odense. There is a strong desire to strengthen the commerciality of Odense, which will be revitalised by the development of VIVA.
Mike Wilson-MacCormack, Director at Benoy, explains, “The vision of VIVA was twofold – to create a leading retail destination that would also add to the business life of the city.”
Any city development invites a series of considerations, such as establishing good links with the existing streets to ensure a seamless flow for pedestrians and shoppers. With this is mind, streets will continue through the shopping centre, promoting a natural connection between VIVA and the wider community.
Wilson-MacCormack continues, “The area is in a fantastic location at the end of Kongensgade, which is already a well-established shopping avenue and VIVA has the added benefit of being parallel to the rail station. Odense is truly beautiful, and we have endeavoured to craft a unique retail centre that will inject new life into the city. VIVA reflects the type of forward thinking developments Benoy is known for around the globe.”
The project will introduce over 40,000sq.m.of prime retail space to the city as well as office space and a significant amount of recreational area, including cafés and restaurants.
VIVA has been carefully designed using the concept of ‘Zoning’, where retailers are clustered together around centres of activity. The scheme will include six distinct sectors – Fashion, Living, Sports, Media, Kids and Food, with each area presenting a tailored visual and sensory experience for visitors.
VIVA will also offer the ‘Powder Room’, which will be exclusively for the use of female patrons. Ladies will be able to make use of the meeting places, a cafe and luxury pampering facilities as well as 14 – 16 carefully selected stores.
Spread over 42,000 sq.m., VIVA will combine a total of 100 shops, 1,600 parking spaces and 2,500 bicycle stands.
The grand opening of VIVA is scheduled for 10th October 2015.
